Amateur Catholic

We don't write books or do speaking tours.
In fact, we barely do our jobs.
-We're the B-Team of Catholic Bloggers-

This is the home of the Amateur Catholic® bloggers - or as we like to refer to ourselves, the B-team. We don't write books or do speaking tours. In fact, we barely do our jobs. That's not to say we're unambitious though... You see, this coalition is just the second phase our blogoshpere conquest. We suppose you could think of us as amateur crusaders too.

Membership will not bring you any money, perks, notoriety, or prestige - but you will get the privilege of proudly displaying the B-team badge on your blog! Lucky you, huh?

amateurcatholic @ gmail.com

If you are hosting a conference, parish function, or some other event and can not afford the exorbitant fees typically associated with a Professional Catholic®, please contact one of our members. We like to hear ourselves talk just as much as the Professional Catholics® do, we just don't charge you for it. But hey give us a meal, free beer, and a designated driver, and we'll speak about breaking the Da Vinci Code or anything else you might care to hear about.

The B-Team badge is copryright 2006, The B-Team Bloggers®. Of course, we're Amateur Catholics®, so if you use the badge without permission (enrolled membership), we won't hunt you down and make you cough up your hard-earned bucks. Just have fun with it and maybe buy us a beer next time you're in town.

Amateur operations

I thought I'd take a moment to mention a few things. First, with these latest additions we now have a whopping 158 registered B-Team blogs. We still receive from 2 to 5 new applications every week. Who would have ever thought there were so many self-deprecating amatuers in such a relatively small community. It must be a Catholic thing, huh?

I also want to apologize to those folks who have found themselves waiting for three to four weeks to get posted. It stinks and I'm sorry. For future applicants, let me explain. In a perfect world I would check this email account multiple times a day and as soon as an application comes in check out the site and post the application. That's in a perfect world - or at least a professional world. In the amateur world I check the account once or twice a week and after four to five apps have accumulated I wait for an evening - usually on a weekend - when I can post all (or most) of them in one sitting. I have some obligations outside of the typical family/work realm and my free time is generally limited to 5 to 20 minute blocks of time. Of course, if I can't get it in on the weekend then you're stuck waiting another week or more. I know that's an amateurish way to operate, but would you expect anything less ...err ...more?

Anyway, I'd like to again welcome the latest inductees and remind you all to install the B-Team badge (and blogroll if you choose) if you haven't already.

Maggie: Amateur Catholic

Hi,
I'd like to join the B team. I am a Catholic and I blog about my life as a Mom and that often included our Catholicism. Our interest of late is checking out a Catholic High school in case we move to that area next spring. This is a big deal because, I have a large extended Catholic family. I have 17 Aunts, Uncles and cousins who have gone to one of the three Catholic HS in my area. I was the first one to go to a different one. So I was teased, harassed and to this day bullied by my family. (They would not do it if they did not love me.) Now my sons are on the grade school wrestling team for the rival school. My family seems to be under the delusion that I just might send my kids there. Ha!. But moving a bit South, well. That is an interesting idea. (Except my 11YO is against this. "But Mom, I want to move to someplace where I can go to the same school you went to")

Being madcacapped strikes me as a prerequisite for being and amateur. Welcome aboard, Maggie!

Cura Animarum: Amateur Catholic

Hi,

I was reading the blog of one of your members "CatholicNews.org" and came here after I applied for her "well-known Catholic convert blogger/apologist" poster possition. I don't think its a paid one and I havent' even heard from her yet but it soudned like she was having a baby in her last post so she probably won't get back to me until tomorrow or something. Also I only started bogging yesterday so I'll bet you don't have anyone quite as amateur as me at that.

Also I'm Catholic and have been for ten years now (though I'm stil waiting for the membership card which they say is in the mail but I haven't seen it yet). My blog isn't really funny but I've only just started it and I'm still not sure what kind of blog it's going to be something to do with writing fiction and non-fiction and maybe some complaining about trying to be a Lay Pastoral Minister in the church today but who knows.

I am part of the paid pastoral staff of our parish but you weren't really clear about whether you had to be an Amateur Catholic, Amateur Catholic Blogger or what. Does it help that even though I've been in a paid Pastoral Possition I still don't really know what I'm doing? I hope so I really really really REALLY want this BAD!

My blog: http://curaanimarum.blogspot.com/

Cura Animarum
I'm really really really REALLY pleased to welcome you to St. Blog's and the B-Team. It's nice to have you, and don't forget to install the badge and/or blogroll (the links are in the sidebar).

Aaron Russell: Amateur Catholic

Ladies and Gentlemen,

An email to join the B-team. Reason: My amount of blogging increases exponentially with the amount of study I should be doing.

Anthony De Cristofaro: Amateur Catholic

My amateur catholic blog is over at http://yourdailytripod.blogspot.com/

It is targetted to people anywhere in the world who strive to live a life of piety, study and action based upon divinely revealed Word of God, the teaching of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and the works and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Why I am an Amateur/B-Team Catholic:

1) I make no money off my blog
2) I make no money working for the church
3) I attended public school for my whole life until College
4) I passed two theology courses at Belmont Abbey College thanks to the kindness of the late Rev. Jerome Dollard, OSB and Abbot Walter Coggin, OSB
5) I spend time at church on days other than Sunday
6) I read the Bible
7) I have actually been seen carrying my Bible with me to Church (gasp)
8) I talk about my faith publicly
9) I have the NAB audio on my MP3 player
10) I have a link to the daily readings, Stations and the Rosary on my Blackberry
11) I go to church when I am on vacation or business trips

De colores!

Anthony De Cristofaro, OLP (Ordinary Lay Person)

PS: If you let me join, I'll be your best friend.
Well Anthony you sure have amateur credentials. I mean, the NAB??? Welcome aboard you amateur!

Fr. Pat: Amateur Catholic

Hello.

I would like to apply for membership in the B-Team. Being a busy
priest, I really cannot even aspire to join the A-Team, even if such a
thing were desireable. My blog is mostly my homilies, sometimes my
spritual ruminations, and sometimes even my reaction to current news
(although rarely is it that...). I often feel guilty (which makes me
very Catholic, of course, but I digress) about the fact that I don't
start liturgical wars on my blog, or get conservatives -- or liberals --
angry enough to burn down the place that houses the server for my blog
(wherever that may be, God only knows), but then I usually get over it.
Is that amateur enough for you?

Fr. Pat

My blog: Caritas Christi Urget Nos at http://blogs.patmulcahy.net
Yepp. Amateurish enough for me. Welcome to the B-Team Fr. Pat. I love the thought of having priest and religious amateur Catholics around. Be sure to remember your fellow B-Teamers in your prayers. ;)

Update:
Hello!

You just added my blog, Caritas Christi Urget Nos, to the directory.
Somehow, I was distracted (probably by being ordained or something) and
let my domain name lapse, and now I can't renew it. So I have a new
domain name now, and you'll find my blog intact at
http://blog.fathermulcahy.com -- sorry for the inconvenience.

Fr. Pat
All updated Fr. Pat, thanks for the heads-up.

Mark Windsor: Amateur Catholic

I like the idea of the B team. Any chance and old hand newly returned
might join in?

Since I don't seem to know everybody on this list, I ran Vociferous
Yawpings for more than two years. I've been off for the last 15 months
or so...new baby and advancing age required something to give.

My new site is at yawper.stblogs.org

Let me know what I need to do next.

Take care,
Mark
Glad you're back to blogging and happy to have you on the B-Team.

Pete: Amateur Catholic

Howdy,

I love the idea of the Amateur Catholic B-Team list - there are so many good thoughts and so few people that can get paid for them! As for my qualifications, I often say that I know I'm right when no one will listen to me, and so far I can't even get my wife to read my blog. I tell myself that must mean something.

My bio is simple. I was born and raised with just about no religion in my life and somehow eight years ago found my way (or more precisely, was led) to the Catholic Church. It is a wonder to this day that I didn't trip over my own two large feet on the way there. I have absolutely no blogging authority, but I do it anyway in the vain hope that it may some day make a difference. Does that qualify me for Amateur status?

Thanks!

- Pete
Email2:
So how amateur was that? I forgot to include my blog site. It's at http://uttermuttering.blogspot.com/. Surely that must qualify me!

- Pete
You sure sound qualified to me, Pete. Welcome aboard!

Kristin: Amateur Catholic

Hi, Can I join your blogroll? My name is Kristin and the names of my blog is Kristin's ramblings. I mainly blog about pro-life issues, issues in the church, politics, movie reviews, and daily events in my life. It isn't fancy, but it is straight from my heart. I hope you say "yes!"

God Bless,

Kristin

Jovan-Marya Weismiller
The New Crusade
Welcome to the B-Team, Jovan!

CMinor & DMinor: Amateur Catholics

We would appreciate being added to your blogroll as Amateur Amateurs. Our rationale for making this request is:
1. We are very amateurish.
2. We are Catholic.
3. We blog, about things related to Catholicism and other things.
4. We are currently trying to track down some hard-to-verify G. B. Shaw quotes ( see our latest post) and are hoping to get some input from others.

Our blog is the minor premise

Thank you.

CMinor & DMinor
On that note, welcome to the B-Team!

Paul: Amateur Catholic

Good evening,

So I was surfing the blogspot nation and found a link to the Amateur Catholic® B Team and after reading your site I felt I met the amateur requirements: I am a blogger and I am Catholic. Although I only meet the minimal requirements, my intent for my blog is to contribute details about my life as a husband, father, brother, son, friend and share some my thoughts as a Conservative Catholic in today’s society.

Check out my blog at http://talesfromgodscountry.blogspot.com.

Thank you for your consideration!

God Bless!

Paul
Happy to have you, Paul. Welcome aboard!

Godsdaughter: Amateur Catholic

I'd like to join this fun team. I think I qualify cause I'm so amateur I didn't even know what blogs were until about a month ago! It's a brave new world :) I was a nun for 20 years..but I'm not anymore. See how amateurish I am! My blog is catholicspirituality.blogspot.com
Well, do I make it? Huh? Do I???
- spoiled child of God
Welcome to the B-Team, Godsdaughter. Sorry about the delay.

Paul Smith Jr. update

From Paul:
I applied for membership before (http://paulsmithjr.blogspot.com). I've moved to a hosted domain. (http://www.gazizza.net)
You're all set Paul, I updated the blogroll.

Two Hearts Ablaze: Amateur Catholics

A BRAND NEW SITE wants to join the B Team. Two fellow bloggers, Tom from Recta Ratio and Ginny from The Inspired Traditionalist are two Amateurs trying to make a go of A new site together called The Two Hearts Ablaze
http://sacredandimmaculatehearts.blogspot.com
We are trying to inform fellow readers about the Devotions to The Sacred and Immaculate Hearts.
Nice work Tom and Ginny. Sorry it took so long to get this up.

The Piuses: Amateur Catholics

Membership Committee,

We, the Popes Pius of http://totuspius.blogspot.com, request to be
enrolled as Amateur Catholics. The details of our site is as follows:
"Those popes who bear the name, 'Pius,' are the greatest guardians of
the Church against heresy. This blog is a watchdog for modernism in
the Church. In reality, outside this blog, the members of the board
temper their criticisms and opinions with prudence and charity so as
to help souls in their journey towards Christ. But sometimes, for the
sake of their own sanity, the authors of this blog just need to blow
off some steam. The result is Totus Pius."

We also request to be enrolled as Professional Amateurs. The reason
we deserve this honor is simple: We like to excommunicate and
anathematize people. Should you refuse the humble request of five
great patriarchs of the Church, we will be forced to excommunicate
you. If the idea of begging in snow for three days is not appealing
to you, we strongly recommend that you honor our request.

Apostolic blessings,
The Popes Pius
(Pius V, Pius IX, Pius X, Pius XII and our resident anti-pope Pius XIII)
Funny stuff. Who am I to dis a Pius, let alone four of them? Welcome to the B-Team your holinesses!
