Amateur Catholic

We don't write books or do speaking tours.
In fact, we barely do our jobs.
-We're the B-Team of Catholic Bloggers-

This is the home of the Amateur Catholic® bloggers - or as we like to refer to ourselves, the B-team. We don't write books or do speaking tours. In fact, we barely do our jobs. That's not to say we're unambitious though... You see, this coalition is just the second phase our blogoshpere conquest. We suppose you could think of us as amateur crusaders too.

Membership will not bring you any money, perks, notoriety, or prestige - but you will get the privilege of proudly displaying the B-team badge on your blog! Lucky you, huh?

If you are hosting a conference, parish function, or some other event and can not afford the exorbitant fees typically associated with a Professional Catholic®, please contact one of our members. We like to hear ourselves talk just as much as the Professional Catholics® do, we just don't charge you for it. But hey give us a meal, free beer, and a designated driver, and we'll speak about breaking the Da Vinci Code or anything else you might care to hear about.

The B-Team badge is copryright 2006, The B-Team Bloggers®. Of course, we're Amateur Catholics®, so if you use the badge without permission (enrolled membership), we won't hunt you down and make you cough up your hard-earned bucks. Just have fun with it and maybe buy us a beer next time you're in town.

Maureen Martin: Amateur Catholic

Hi! For those of you who don't know me, I am a cantor, advent-wreath maker, blogger, former religion column writer, creator and/or member of 56 apostolates, and "part-time and unpaid slayer of heresies." Sometimes I have a column in "Crisis" magazine, and because of this, some of my blogging friends questioned my amateur status for a few minutes. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and they let me be a charter member. After all, the "Crisis" column brings more people to my blog, which just enhances my amateur status. It's all about the blog, people...and my apostolates.

Did I mention I came in a lowly 3rd place in the Catholic Blog Awards? That smacks of amateurism, doesn't it?

I've tried to get out of my apostolates and spend more time with my family, but my husband insists that if I do, many people's spiritual lives will go up in flames.

Speaking of my family, many of my readers know I am with child. We found out today we are having a boy. And, from the ultrasound, this is no ordinary boy. He is definitely pope-worthy or at least worthy to lead several hundred apostolates one day. On screen we saw him formulating his first coloring book, "A Kidz Guide to Refuting the DaVinci Code." We're real proud.

Congratulations on your little boy! It's nice to know that some people can have boys -- it doesn't seem to work out that way here, with three girls. I hope he doesn't do too much in-uterine writing -- it's going to get real cramped in there real soon, and a baby with writer's block is a baby who kicks all the time.
